A member of the House of Lords dies in a shockingly silly way, leaving his estate to his son Jack (Peter O'Toole) — who has been released from a mental institution so that he can claim his rightful place as the lord of his father’s estate. But there is only one problem; Jack, the 14th Earl of Gurney, believes that he is the Heavenly Father incarnate and only answers to the names J.C. Jehovah or any of the other "nine billion names for God." The other somewhat-more respectable members of the family plot to steal the estate from him but it soon backfires and murder and mayhem ensues. The Ruling Class is a dark, anarchic satire adapted from a Peter Barnes play and directed by Peter Medak (The Changeling, The Krays). Peter O'Toole heads a superb cast that features several of England's most distinguished actors of the time, including Alastair Sim, Arthur Lowe, Harry Andrews, and Coral Browne.
