High school is never easy: insecurities, exams, relationships, friendships and fights are all part of the daily drama that runs through the halls. Which is why it’s such a popular subject for the movies and although many teen films have come close to capturing the ups and downs of adolescent life, none can boast the validity of this fascinating documentary. Set in Warsaw, Indiana, the film follows a group of graduating high school seniors, struggling through their daily dilemmas and counting down the days to ‘freedom’. But despite what we’ve always been told, will these turn out to be the best days of their lives? Directed by Nanette Burstein (THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE), American Teen competed in the Documentary Competition at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, where it received the Directing Award for Documentary.
