Based on the classic novel by Graham Greene, this is the original screen version, directed by Oscar-winning director Joseph Mankiewicz. When the body of a murdered American (Audie Murphy) is found floating in the Mekong river in Saigon, French Indo-China, the Police Inspector asks British journalist Thomas Fowler (Michael Redgrave) to identify the body and then questions him about the death. Fowler soon falls under suspicion himself as the police begin to investigate his links to the American’s beautiful Vietnamese girlfriend Phuong (Giorgia Moll) and his involvement in the country’s volatile political situation.
