FEATURING The Green Man Folly To Be Wise Geordie Left Right and Centre Laughter in Paradise Much loved actor Alistair Sim is a byword for Classic British Comedy, appearing in unforgettable movies such as the belle’s of St. Trinian's and The Happiest Days of Your Life. He was both popular and critically acclaimed, BAFTA nominated as well as topping the cinemagoers popularity poll. This collection, along with Comic Icons: The Will Hay Collection, marks Part Four of the Optimum Comic Icons series which has also celebrated Peter Sellers, Terry-Thomas, Leslie Phillips, Sidney James and Tony Hancock. LAUGHTER IN PARADISE (1951) When the last will and testament of Henry Augustus Russell (aka The Joker) is read out to his four remaining relatives, it seems that he has lived up to his name by setting them each tasks to complete before they can receive their inheritance. Each task is designed to reflect the relative’s greatest shortcoming and test their ability to adapt and ultimately change for the better. Sim plays Deniston, a respectable retired Army Officer who secretly writes blood-and-thunder novels. His stipulated task is to spend 28 days in gaol for a genuine breach of the law, but despite his best efforts, he just cannot seem to get arrested! Cert: Running Time: 92 mins approx Region 2 Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1 B&W / PAL Mono English Language FOLLY TO BE WISE (1953) Alastair Sim stars as Captain Paris, who takes over as chaplain and entertainments officer in a large Army camp, where the troops are seemingly more interested in favouring the local hostelries than attenting planned social events. The first of Paris’ hopeful ideas is to stage a Brains Trust with local celebrities as “brains” and himself as chairman. However, rather than creating a forum for meaningful discussion, events quickly spiral out of control when the question “Is marriage a good idea?” touches a raw nerve with some of the panel… Cert: Running Time: mins approx Region 2 Aspect Ratio: / PAL Mono English Language GEORDIE (1955) As a boy rather small for his age, Geordie responds to an advert for a body-building course, determined to improve his stature and thus win the heart of Jean, the girl of his dreams. Becoming the course’s star pupil, Geordie (played by Bill Travers) soon matures into a tall, strong young man, working alongside his father, gamekeeper to the local Laird (Alastair Sim). He and Jean (Norah Gorsen) fall in love, but when sporting success takes him to Australia for the Olympic Games, misinterpreted radio reports and the sheer geographical distance between them threatens to put an end to their relationship. Cert: Running Time: mins approx Region 2 Aspect Ratio: / PAL Mono English Language THE GREEN MAN (1956) Alastair Sim plays Hawkins, a timid watchmaker with a part time job – he is also a professional assassin who bumps off all the people we love to hate. But when pompous MP Sir Gregory Upshott (Raymond Huntley) is the intended target, bungling vacuum cleaner salesman William Blake (George Cole) always gets in the way. As the time of the assassination draws ever closer, Hawkins tracks his victim to a dilapidated seaside hotel called the Green Man, the laughs and the tension steadily rise to a brilliant climax. Cert: U Running Time: 90 mins approx Region 2 Aspect Ratio: 16:9 B&W / PAL Mono English Language LEFT RIGHT AND CENTRE (1959) Spotting an opportunity to turn good publicity into a few extra pennies, Lord Wilcot (Alastair Sim), owner of a highly commercialised “stately home”, puts forward his nephew Robert (Ian Carmichael) as the Tory candidate in the upcoming Earndale by-election. Standing against him for Labour is Stella Stoker (Patricia Bredin), daughter of a Billingsgate fish merchant. Matters are complicated however when Robert and Stella meet and are struck by an instant attraction to each other, leaving their wily agents to try and thwart the burgeoning love between them and hopefully grab victory for their own respective candidate.
