Johnny (Jane Birkin) is a petite waif-like waitress working in a diner, lonely for love. She develops a crush on garbage collector Krassky (Joe Dallesandro), who is attracted to her boyish looks. Already an unconventional relationship, matters are further complicated by their inability to consummate it the way that Krassky would like, and the growing jealousy of his boyfriend and fellow refuse collector, Padovan.
