FRANKIE HOWERD DOUBLE BILL featuring Up Pompeii / Up The Chastity Belt / The House in Nightmare Park TBC Up Pompeii and Up The Chastity Belt with their battery of 'oohs', 'aahs' and 'thrice nays' firmly established Howerd firmly in the hearts of comedy lovers, giving the comedian a cult status amongst younger comedy lovers, making him a popular entertainment figure right up until his death in 1992. UP POMPEII sees Frankie Howerd reprise his role from the much-loved British TV series Up Pompeii, in a feature length film version that proved as enduring as the Carry On series its humour so closely resembles. Revelling in the decadence of ancient Rome, the film leaves no sexual connotation unturned and the humour is of the bawdy variety. Howerd’s timing and delivery is impeccable, frequently addressing the audience directly and giving knowing looks to the camera as he casually reels off a seemingly never-ending series of knowing quips and risqué one-liners. UP THE CHASTITY BELT, also known as Naughty Nights, is an uproarious and racy British comedy from the Up Pompeii team. Alongside the stalwarts of such 70s fare (Roy Hudd, Lance Percival) a surprisingly stellar cast including Anna Quayle and Eartha Kitt provide the perfect foil for star Howerd’s saucy double entendres. As befitting the period, the medieval adventures are punctuated by ample displays of female flesh.
